Grace Louella Nenninger

Grace Louella Nenninger, Lou, of Alamogordo, NM, passed away on February 15, 2010 at the extraordinary age of 93 (and ½). She was preceded in death by her husband Harold and son Larry and survived (amazingly, considering the grief she gave them) by her daughters Franke Gill of Dallas, Marty Mills of Cloudcroft, Sue Kehoe of Artesia, and Teresa Bornmann of Alamogordo who were comforted in knowing she kept all who were able to visit her laughing until the end.

Born in Sapulpa, Oklahoma in 1916 to James Story Taylor and Orabell Ashurst, she grew up in a difficult time with resources hard to come by. She proudly passed to her children her ability to discover a great deal and make a meal from nothing. She was known by her friends for her love of Bridge, a good football game, and a better joke (which she always seemed to pull out of her memory on mostly appropriate occasions).

Her 9 grand children, Meg, Micah, Stuart, Graham, Taylor, April Candace, Nichole and Colin also survived her. When asked how many great grandchildren she had she would reply, “They’re all great!” She loved to have her gaggle of great grand children, Trier, Jeremy, Josh, Valen, Wesley, William, Hayley, Keiran, Grace and Reece around, but especially when they were outside in the backyard and not under her feet. And she will be missed by her ever faithful and loving dog, Zippy, who was her favorite of all the afore mentioned.

Just before she passed, she was reorganizing her recipes on her computer. We are so glad to have them (although “some” of this and “some” of that make for interesting meals). Per her request, anyone who still possesses one of her jelly jars (including hospital laboratory staff) should return them to any of her children for reuse.

We are required to insert this disclaimer, written by Lou (or we will not inherit anything!) “Do not believe anything the wretched girls tell you. I was kind and generous and loving and beautiful and in general the most wonderful person you could ever have known. So there.”

Please join her family in sharing your fond memories of her at memorial services to be held at 3 pm Thursday February 18 at Hamilton-O’Dell Funeral Home in Alamogordo.
