Richard K. “Dick” Shock, 91, passed away on Thursday, March 29, 2012 in Alamogordo, NM. He was born in Sandusky, OH on January 15, 1920. The family moved to Toledo, OH where he graduated from the University of Toledo. He met and married Jane (Harris) Shock in 1941. He served honorably in the Navy during World War II on LST 1006 in the Philippines. He was a reporter and PR man and had a great sense of humor.
After his retirement, he and Jane were winter “snowbirds” to Bradenton, FL, moving there permanently in 1999. After Jane’s death in 2000, Dick moved to Laurel, MD to be near his daughter, Sue Cather, and her husband, Jeff. In 2008 he moved with the Cathers to Alamogordo. He called himself a “transplanted flatlander” and really enjoyed looking at the mountains. He also enjoyed going to the Alamo Senior Center for lunch and to play bingo.
Dick was preceded in death by his parents, Hazel and Kenneth Shock; his wife, Jane; his son, Dean; and his sister, Hazel Lee Wheeler. He is survived by his daughter and son-in-law, Sue and Jeff Cather; and his daughter-in-law, Linda Shock of N. Wales, PA, as well as grandchildren, niece and nephew.
The family would like to extend their sincerest thanks to the Casita de Cura Assisted Living facility in Alto, NM, who took loving care of him and thought of him as family.
The family has entrusted their loved one to the care of Hamilton-O’Dell Funeral Home. After cremation, there will be a private memorial service in Toledo, OH.
