Anita Hicks Obituary

Anita M. Hicks, 78, passed away on June 3, 2021 in Alamogordo, New Mexico. She was born on December 3, 1942 in Bent, New Mexico to Refugio and Victoria (Hernandez) Montoya.
Anita was raised in Bent, New Mexico with her three sisters and three brothers.

She married Richard P. Chavez and lived in San Patricio, New Mexico.  After three of her sons were born the family moved to San Jose/Los Gatos, California where she had her fourth son.  Shortly after they moved back to Ruidoso, New Mexico.  She worked in the cafeteria for Ruidoso Schools and as a homemaker raising her sons.  They moved to Tularosa where she received a certificate of cosmetology, one of her passions in life.  Later she worked at Holloman Air Force Base at the NCO Club where she was a cook for many years.
She then met and married her second husband, Al Hicks, and lived in Alamogordo, New Mexico.  After losing her husband, she moved back to Tularosa, a place she dearly loved.  She liked to tell a joke or two and would have everyone around her laughing.  She also liked to play cards, dominoes, and word search.  One of her favorite songs "La Bamba" was played as her family remained by her side as she was called home.

Survivors include her four sons, Carlos (Diana) Chavez of Ruidoso, NM, Steve (Lisa) Chavez of Tularosa, NM, Jerry (Melody) Chavez of Hondo, NM, Leo (Dorothy) Chavez of Bent, NM, Tony (Cristina) Chavez of Artesia, NM; her brother, Raymond (Connie) Montoya of Bent, NM; sisters, Isabel (Jesse) Reynolds of Ruidoso, NM, and Cuca Crisman of Alamogordo, NM.
She was preceded in death by her parents, Refugio and Victoria Montoya; her husbands, Richard P. Chavez and Al Hicks; brothers, Antonio Montoya and Carlos Montoya; and sister, Helen Herrera.
