Antonio Rey Obituary

Antonio “Tony” Baca Rey, 82, passed away on December 2, 2021, in Alamogordo, New Mexico surrounded by the love of his family. He was born on May 30, 1939, in Alamogordo, New Mexico to Abel and Juanita Rey.  

Tony proudly enlisted in the United States Army in 1962.  During his service, he was stationed abroad in Europe.  He later worked in Civil Service until he retired.  Upon his return from Europe, he met the love of his life, Maria Elena Meza, and they married in April of 1966. They were happily married for over 56 years. He was a loving father to their three children Juanita, Maria, and Tony Jr, and was very loved by his 6 grandchildren and great granddaughter. 

He spent much of his free time hunting and hiking in the Sacramento mountains.  He enjoyed spending time with his family and friends and sharing his many vibrant memories of his life in Alamogordo. Tony was larger than life, both in stature and heart.  He will be greatly missed.

He was preceded in death by father Abel Rey, mother Juanita Rey, and brothers Luis Rey, Alfonso Rey, Carlos Rey, and Herman Rey.  He is survived by wife Maria Elena Rey of Alamogordo, NM, daughters Juanita (Joseph) Najar of Elizabethtown, KY, Maria (William) Herndon of La Luz, NM, son Tony (Adina) Rey of St. Louis, MO, grandchildren Victoria Najar of Elizabethtown,KY, Heather (Jared) Davis of Portland,OR, Danielle Najar of Elizbethtown, KY, Nicholas Najar of Elizabethtown, KY, Victor Rey of St Louis, MO, Alexander Rey of St. Louis, MO, and great granddaughter Rosia Carey of Elizabethtown, KY. 

The Rosary will be recited at 10:30 am, Saturday, January 15, 2022 at Immaculate Conception Catholic Church followed by the Mass of Christian Burial at 11:00 am.

The Rey family has entrusted their loved one to the care of Scenic Chapel.
