Arlene Martinez, 78, passed away on October 6, 2021. She was born on April 8, 1943 in Mescalero, New Mexico to Edmund Yahnaki Sago and Daisy Botella Belin.
She was a lifelong educator and retired from the Ruidoso schools. She enjoyed being with family and a devout Catholic attending both St. Josephs in Mescalero and Our Lady of Guadalupe in Bent.
She is preceded in death by her husband, Amador Martinez, Father, Edmond Yahnaki Sago, Mother, Daisy Botella Belin, Daughters, Carmen Saenz and Betty Smith, and grandchildren, Marissa Martinez and Thomas Martinez.
Survivors include her daughters Maria Saenz, Ruby Lathan, Peggy Vigil, Jackqueline Calderon, Gina Perez, Betty Smith (deceased), Carmen Saenz (deceased) and sons Jesse Martinez, Ben Martinez, Amador Martinez III, Eddie Martinez, Cloyce Salazar, Roy Martinez and David Melendrez all of Mescalero. Two sisters, Dorotha Whitebird and Loree Marine also of Mescalero.
She had 24 grandchildren and 15 great grandchildren and several nieces and nephews.
The funeral service for Arlene Martinez will be held on Tuesday, October 12, 2021 at St. Joseph’s Mission – Mescalero, Rosary at 9:00 with mass at 10:00, Fr. Dave Mercer officiating and reception immediately following.
Pallbearers are her grandsons and honorary pallbearers are: Sharon Taza, Lida Kanseah, Peggy Balatche, June Denny, Lara Botella, Jeanne Dennis, Maybelle Mendez, Rozlyn Enjady, and Millette Saenz.
The Martinez family has entrusted their loved one to the care of Scenic Chapel to direct the funeral services.
