David Walter Lind passed away peacefully at Mesilla Valley Hospice, after a lengthy battle with lung cancer, on February 4, 2021 in Las Cruces. He was born September 11, 1944 in Chicago, Illinois to Walter and Myrtle Lind.
Survivors include his devoted wife of 47 years, Johanna; his mother-in-law, Enid Smith; two nephews, a niece, close family friend, Steven Gattis; and his fur baby, Misty.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Walter and Myrtle Lind; a sister, Barbara Phelps; his father-in-law, William Smith; and brother-in-law, Michael B. Smith.
David was a 1962 National Science Fair winner from Otero County, and a 1962 graduate of Alamogordo High School. He earned his Bachelor's and Master's degrees from New Mexico State University. David was an Associate Professor at NMSU/A, a Certified Public Accountant, and Financial Director of the Alamogordo Public Schools.
He was a strong defender of our 2nd amendment rights and a lifetime member of NRA. He enjoyed the outdoors, photography, aviation, playing golf, and debating issues of international importance. He was a scholar of WWI and WWII history. David was a member of Mensa and Phi Kappa Phi.
A private burial will be held February 9, 2021 at 2:00 PM.
The family would like to thank Amber Care Hospice of Alamogordo, especially his nurse, Kim, and the hospice nursing staff at Mesilla Valley Hospice La Posada in Las Cruces, NM.
David will be missed by all who knew him.
The family has entrusted the care of their loved one to Scenic Chapel to direct the funeral service.
