Farris McNutt Obituary

Farris “Eldon” McNutt finished his race and received his Heavenly Reward on Monday December 6, 2021.

Eldon, or “Big E” as he was affectionately called by many, was born on February 28, 1935 in Bohannon, OK to Lester and Ola McNutt. The family moved to Plainview, Texas when Eldon was four years old. Eldon would go on to meet his bride of 68 years, Gloria Roberson in a high school math class. They married on June 6, 1953.

Eldon then attended college at Bethany Nazarene College in Bethany, OK.

In 1960 after moving back to Plainview, TX; Eldon worked for Plains Welding Supply, then owned & operated Happy Union Store & Station for a few years. In 1971, he moved his family to Hereford, Tx; where he would start a career in the Natural Gas industry that stretched over 24 years and with several different Gas companies where he was employed as natural gas pipeline technician.

He was a life-long member of the Church of the Nazarene where he was known for his Servanthood. He served as board member, building committee, Sunday School teacher and many other areas of leadership during his life. He attended and served in Plainview, Seagraves, Amarillo, Hereford and Angus churches.

He loved sports and he coached his sons in basketball, football and baseball.  He made it a point to make sure to be at as many practices and games that he could. He was the greatest encourager and fan.  He also had a great passion to watch his grandchildren and great grandchildren as they participated in their sports, music, drama or whatever they were participating in.  He was their biggest fan, given great encouragement regardless of the outcome. He would brag on them all and was so proud of each of their accomplishments.

He was a “Jack of all Trades”: mechanic, builder, carver, musician, hunter and about anything you can think of.  He often spent time with his boys teaching them all he could to prepare them for life and was always there to assist in any project they had going on. His knowledge was always a saving grace.

Eldon was a lover of God first. He had and incredible love for his wife Gloria, whom he affectionately referred to as “Pretty Lady” - his four children and grandchildren. He was a lover of all people and could often be found helping a friend or neighbor with an array of different request from auto or home repairs.  His gift of being a “Jack of all Trades” was his gift to give to all that he could. Serving was something he truly loved. He could tell you about anything or anyone in the area as that was part of his passion.

Eldon and Gloria built their home together from the ground up and moved to Ruidoso in 1994. They loved to sit on the porch and soak in all of nature’s greatness.  Eldon love to be on his big red dozer working the ground and working on the home to make sure things were just right.  They loved to travel and share time together.  They explored a lot of the US and had so many wonderful memories and stories to tell. They were a great team.

He loved the USA and the freedoms it provides.

Eldon was preceded in death by: His sister Barbara Sue McNutt, His father Lester Lee McNutt, His Mother Ola Pearl Looney McNutt

He is survived by his wife of 68 years, Gloria Roberson McNutt.  One brother, Lesal McNutt of Plainview Tx.  One Daughter, Donna Nelson & husband Marty of Amarillo, Tx.  Three sons: Harold McNutt & wife Karen of Hereford, Tx. Larry McNutt & wife Kathy of Eufaula, Ok. Garlan McNutt & wife Shelly of Capitan, NM.   13 Grandchildren, 23 Great Grandchildren.

He was greatly loved and will deeply be missed by all

Eldon was welcomed into Heaven and Heard the words he longed to hear.
