Gerald (Jerry) Arthur Hamel, 82, TSgt, U.S.A.F., Ret.
Gerald Hamel, 82, passed away on January 18, 2021 in Alamogordo, New Mexico. He was born on August 18, 1938 in Amherst, Ohio to Floyd and Bessie (Schellhouse) Hamel.
Jerry served one tour in the Vietnam war and proudly served his country as a Security Police Officer for 20 years in the United States Air Force. His second career was in the auto parts business and he loved sharing his knowledge of the industry. He was a member of the First Presbyterian Church and served as a Deacon and Elder. He was a diehard Cleveland Browns, Indians and Buckeye fan never wavering his loyalty to his teams. He was a member of the Golden Gears Car Club and his love for his old cars was known by many. He enjoyed driving them around town and sharing them with his family and friends. The most important thing to him was his wife, Jane and the love they shared for each other was something for all to strive for. His daughters and grandchildren were his pride and joy and they loved him immensely. Jerry was a good friend to all that knew him and he deeply cared for each one of them.
He is survived by his wife, Jane Hamel of the family home; his two daughters, Sabrina (Rob) Hamel-Green of Albuquerque, NM and Shelly (Pablo) Sanchez of Phoenix, AZ; six grandchildren, Cody, Chelsea, Ryan, Hailey, Averie and Emma and one great grandchild Alfie.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Floyd Arthur and Bessie Hamel and three siblings.
