John Washington, Sr. Obituary

John Fitzgerald Washington, Sr, aka "Pops", aka "Big Dogg", born November 2, 1964 in Dallas Texas passed away in the early evening hours of Wednesday 6 April 2022 from a long and often arduous five year battle with cancer.  He lived in Alamogordo, New Mexico for the past 32 years.  While he was here on Earth, he created so many good memories and lived in the moment.  Through the many struggles in his life he remained upbeat.  He was a family man and always lived his life to the fullest extent possible.  He loved and enjoyed cooking for others; famously known for his ribs and all other types of meat he named "Sweet Meats".

He was a father figure to many children who had an absent parent or who needed support.  John was aptly nicknamed "Pops" by the kids he looked after.  He loved to travel and would drive anytime he felt the need to ride.  He loved any type of sport.  He always had a dream of being a coach for young men.  Most anytime you saw John he was wearing one of his hats.

John absolutely loved music and would dance and sing to entertain you if you were present with him.  He often spoke of how much he loved fishing and being around water.  He also loved to swim.  John loved his family dinners on Sunday with friends which was always very special to him.  Of all the meals, breakfast was his most favorite meal of all.  He loved living in New Mexico and loved the local sites such as the mountains and nature.  John was an amazing soul who will be truly and deeply missed.  Rest easy "Big Dogg" and heaven's lucky to have you.

John is preceded in death by his father, Norris; step-mother, Fay; sister, Bridget; brother, Ton Ton Washington; grandmother, "Big Momma" of east Texas; mother-in-law, Helen Maynez; brother-in-law, David Maynez and Opal of Dallas, Texas.

He is survived by his mother, Mae Lewis of Dallas, Texas; brothers, Bobby Lewis and Vincent Washington; sisters, Leacha Washington, Teresa Johnson and Tammy Washington; wife of 27 years, Victoria; sons, Justin Lybarger and John Washington, Jr.; daughter-in-law, Catherine Washington; daughters, Paris  Washington, Marquita Washington and Charmell Tillman; six grandsons; special auntie, Carrie Scott; best cousin, LaWanda James; best friends for well over 30 years, William Taylor and Michael Hayes; numerous brothers and sisters-in-law with many more nieces, nephews, aunts, uncles and cousins whom he loved dearly.
