Ronald Dale “Yogi” Blalock, 57

Ronald Dale “Yogi” Blalock, passed away on July 21, 2022, at his home in High Rolls, NM, after a lengthy battle with cancer. Dale was born on September 14, 1964, in Okinawa, Japan, to William and Betty Blalock.  He was preceded in death by his father, William Blalock.

Survivors include his wife, Becky Grisak Blalock; two sons, Jake Blalock and Tommy Blalock; his mother, Betty Blalock; two sisters, Suzanne Mooradian and Kathie McCollough; two grandchildren, five nieces and nephews and other extended family.

Following in his father’s footsteps, Dale developed a passion for music and at a very young age. At three years old, he was fascinated with his father’s music recordings and instruments. The first instrument he played was the violin.  From there, he learned to play the drums, the guitar, the piano, and many other instruments, all self-taught. At 12 years old, he started playing drums professionally and was proud to have played in many bands and with many talent musicians during his life. Many of those he played with remained lifelong friends.

Dale moved to Alamogordo, NM in 1973 when his father was transferred to Holloman AFB with the Air Force. He was a 1982 graduate of Alamogordo Senior High School.

Dale had a long career as a Contract Field Teamer supporting the military missions of our troops by maintaining various military aircraft around the world. His work took him to Iceland, Puerto Rico, many locations across the United States including Hawaii, and he even spent time on a Naval Aircraft Carrier off the coast of Italy. He truly loved this line of work and the people he worked with. More recently, after being diagnosed with cancer, he joined his wife Becky at Sun Billing and began a new career as a medical billing specialist.

Dale’s two sons were the highlight of his life and his pride and joy. He loved being their father and instilled his love for sports and music in them.  

Dale married the love of his life, Becky, in 2014. She was his first love when he was 11 years old, but life took them in different directions.  A chance meeting thirty-something years later brought them back together and anyone who ever spent time with them together knew it was meant to be.

It was Dale’s request to not have a funeral. He wanted a celebration of life with family, friends, music, and stories.  After all, according to Dale, life is all about the stories.

Dale’s celebration of life will be held on Saturday, July 30, 2022, at 11:00 a.m. at the GCRMC Conference & Events Center located at 2669 N. Scenic Drive, Alamogordo, NM 88310.  Tina Long will be officiating. There will be a reception immediately following where food, music, stories, and memories will be shared.
