Tommy Evans Obituary

James Thomas Evans, Jr. "Tommy", 58, passed away June 15,2021 at home in Tularosa. He was born on December 11, 1962 during a blizzard in Watervliet, Michigan to James and Phyllis Evans. The doctor had to cross the frozen lake to deliver him. He left this world in the heat of New Mexico. Tommy was a son, brother, husband, and friend to many. He was baptized after moving back home in 2017 after the loss of his wife, Fonda.

Tommy graduated from Alamogordo High School in 1981 and quickly joined the United States Navy stationed in Florida. After serving in the Navy, Tommy worked numerous jobs in the  Alamogordo area before meeting and marrying his wife. They moved to the Midland/Odessa Texas area where he worked in the oil fields. Tommy attended college and trade schools becoming a small engine mechanic and enjoyed working on anything that could and would run.  Tommy worked for the railroad traveling the United States and learning about a range of cultures throughout. After moving back to the Alamogordo area in 2017, Tommy was a substitute teacher working closely with Special Education students. Tommy enjoyed this work and looked forward to seeing and teaching his students daily. Tommy also worked for the City of Alamogordo in the Parks Department for a short time.

Tommy was a true "Trekkie." He enjoyed watching Jeopardy and Wheel of Fortune. Tommy was very knowledgeable and could hold a conversation on various topics. He was fun to be
around and was always trying to make people laugh. Tommy enjoyed gardening, painting, gym activities, and riding his Harley. Tommy enjoyed visiting different restaurants and was always
willing to try new and strange foods. Tommy rarely complained and fought vigilantly against liver cancer. Tommy will be dearly missed and thought about daily.

He is survived by his mother and step-dad, Phyllis and Curtis Crane; brothers, Philip Evans and Little Curtis Crane; his sister, Victoria Cook; sister-in-law, Deanna Crane; his nieces, Kellie
Cook and Leslie Browne and Ara and Christiana Crane; his nephews Eugene Evans and Christian Crane; grand nieces, Evelyn and Willow Browne.
